The county government of Uasin Gishu through the department of Environment, Energy, Water and Natural Resources has set aside Sh15 million for environment conservation.
The department aims to conserve the environment through tree planting activities to increase forest cover in the region.
The move is projected to preserve water catchment areas.
Environment CeC Mary Njogu noted that it was important for residents to conserve the environment by planting trees since it was the only way to ensure a friendly environment.
"As a county we intend to plant more trees this year and we are going to make sure that we conserve our water catchment areas in order to get an efficient supply of water which will be of help to the entire county," she said.
"We want to engage women in this activity by training them, giving them trees, especially fruit trees so that they benefit from income from these trees," she added.
Ms Njogu was speaking during a tree planting exercise at Sosiani River to mark the World Water Day.
