Governor William Kabogo has said the county will sponsor and train bodaboda operators in an effort to equip them with more skills.
Speaking at Kamirithu polytechnic in Limuru on Thursday when he issued Biashara Funds cheques to beneficiaries, the Kiambu governor said that already programmes are in place to train boda boda riders.
While lauding the boda boda sector for its role in curbing unemployment, Kabogo said that his government will support the sector.
“We are going to train and equip boda boda operators across the county with skills necessary for their jobs,” he said.
The Kiambu governor observed a large percent of youths in the county are employed in the sector.
Governor Kabogo urged Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) to come up with policies and laws that will promote the boda boda sector.
Kabogo at the same time encouraged the operators to apply for soft loans to expand their business.
“Boda boda riders should come out and seek the loans being issued by the government and the private sector to boost their businesses,” he said.
Kiambu county Youth minister Michael Waikenda encouraged boda boda riders to form groups and seek development funds from the Biashara fun kitty.
Waikenda said that the Biashara Fund kitty is open to every citizen of Kiambu County.
