The Mombasa County Government has unveiled its plans to support students undertaking Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).Officials from the county’s department of education and children’s department on Saturday held a meeting at the Mombasa County Hall to discuss the“Tukuza Vipawa” programme which was launched by the county to create awareness on available training programmes and equip youth with skills that will enable them to start their businesses as well and get employed in industries.Among the resolutions made was the recruitment exercise for potential trainees and related activities scheduled to take place later this month at the county offices located at Mlaleo Primary School, Tononoka Social Hall, Mrima offices and Changamwe Fire Stations.Changamwe sub-county administrator John Kuti said the county will sponsor more than 1,050 trainees to undertake training in various institutions including the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, Maugunja Polytechnic, Mikindani Catholic Youth among others.Kuti said the programme plans to partner with the institutions to offer masonry and marine engineering courses.Madam Malika, who is the head of the children’s department, said the county will cater for 70 percent of the school fees. She urged sub-county ward administrators to be instrumental in mobilising youth in their area to take part in the recruitment exercise.“The target students are class eight and secondary school dropouts as well as those who scored D+ and below in their KCSE examinations,” said Malika.
