Speaking on Wednesday during the issuing of the tanks at St.Martins school in Ngangani, Machakos County, Eng. Francis Wambua, the County Executive officer in charge of water projects said that the tanks would help in harvesting water during the expected rains.

“To ensure water security, we have issued the 10,000 litre tanks. Head teachers ensure the use of the water tanks the government is giving to harvest water during February and March rains, so that we can fight the water problems in our schools,” said Wambua.

“You should consider installing gutters as they are important in collecting as much water as possible,” he added.

Wambua further added that he had made certain there are officers who would be sent to the respective schools to help build a permanent place for the water tanks, to avoid breakages and so the schools should give them support.

The County government has embarked on an elaborate arbitration process with a view of piping every household in Machakos County with water, and this is ongoing and witnessed by the underway expansion and rehabilitation of the Yatta Canal.
