Nyamira governor, John Nyagarama has assured the ministry of education under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i that his government is bent on supporting the sector irrespective of the function being non-devolved.

Speaking on Friday at Kebirigo secondary school John Nyagarama announced the construction of a 40 megawatts solar power station for injection to the national grid complementing connection of schools.

The governor further disclosed allocation of bursaries to the ward level to assist poor but bright children access quality education.

“My Government has set allocations of bursaries in all wards in aid of helping the poor students continue with their education, "said Nyagarama.

In addition, the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, chairman, Walter Nyambati who was also present petitioned the education ministry to provide more teachers to counter the alleged inadequacies before blaming them for non-delivery.

Nyambati said that the schools perform poorly simply because they lack enough teachers in a particular subject area.

“We need enough teachers in our schools for the better results, the school perform poorly in some subjects simply because they lack teachers hence the ministry needs to do something about it,” added Nyambati.
