Health facilities outside Kisumu are set to be strengthened by the county government to boost the delivery of health services.
Speaking on Friday, Governor Jack Ranguma said health remains his government’s top priority.
Some of the facilities that have been strengthened include Ahero, Pap Onditi, Muhoroni, Chulaimbo, Kombewa, Migosi and Lumumba.
Already Ahero sub-district Hospital and Muhoroni have theatres to cater for casualties, and plans are underway to do so in Kombewa, Pap-Onditi, and Chulaimbo.
“We believe that it is through the provision of effective health services that we shall have a healthy workforce to spearhead the attainment of sustainable development goals,” said the governor.
Taking cognizance of the county’s shoe-string budget and skills gap in this crucial sector, the governor stated that he has prudently fostered Public Private Partnerships that will go a long way in reversing poor health indicators that currently dog the county.
“It is against this background that we wish to record our appreciation to the US Agency for International Development for their recent donation of Sh20 million worth of medical supplies to be delivered to all public health facilities within the county,” said Ranguma.
The county government has also distributed linens and blankets to all the hospitals with in-patient services within the County.
Besides USAID, the Japanese government has also supported the county government in the areas of maternal and neo-natal healthcare.
