Former Limuru lawmaker Peter Mwathi wants the Kiambu County government to establish rehabilitation centers for street children.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at Lari trading center ye, the former MP said creation of rehabilitation centers will see the plight of street urchins addressed,

Mwathi raised concerns over the rising number of children roaming the streets in Limuru, and said that urgent measures need to be taken, noting that the children ought to be in school and not streets.

“The Kiambu Government should put up rehabilitation centers for street urchins, so that we can reduce their number in the streets,” he said.

The former lawmaker at the same time called for sensitization programmes and campaigns that will help reduce cases of drug abuse among the youths.

He said that drug abuse among teenagers remain a big concern that should be taken seriously and challenged the government to ensure that happens.

The former MP pledged to work with current leaders to oversee development across Limuru and adjacent sub-counties.
