The Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Tuesday passed a motion urging the county government to establish a land banking policy.
This, according to the Members of County Assembly (MCA's), will ensure structures are put in place on how land will be availed to prospective investors in Eldoret town and in other urban areas in the county.
Kamagut MCA Jeremiah Sang while moving the motion said land is one of the major economic factor that the county need to leverage on in order to attain higher economic development and growth.
"This is a strategic future revenue generation plan and its implementation will entail identifying and acquiring land in strategic areas of the county for banking," noted Mr Sang.
Majority of the MCA's who had an opportunity to contribute on the motion supported it, calling for its swift implementation.
"This is a type of motion that needs to be executed with maximum speed and minimum delay as it will help ensure public land don't lie idle," said Langas MCA Francis Muya.
"Once established, the policy will provide an opportunity for the county to plan ahead since land is a factor of economy," added Ann Lagat, a nominated MCA.
The motion will now be forwarded to the executive arm of county government where the departments of Finance and Economic planning and Lands, Housing and planning are expected to establish the policy and forward to the County Assembly for deliberation and approval.
