Uasin Gishu County Chief fire officer Peter Kibet wants the county government to invest in modern firefighting equipment.
Briefing the press at his office on Monday, Kibet said currently the county is ill prepared to handle fire disasters.
He said that investment in modern fire fighting equipments will enable them to respond promptly to fire disasters.
“At the moment we are not prepared to handle fire or any other disasters,” said Mr Kibet.
He also asked the county government to educate residents on disaster and safety management to help them respond to disasters.
Kibet further encouraged youths in the county to pursue disaster management adding that it is a lucrative career.
He observed that many people are earning descent livelihood from the career hence need for youths to take it seriously.
Kibet said the county will conduct seminars in schools aimed to encourage students to take up careers in disaster management.
