Locals of Boiyeki, Kisii have asked the county government to pass a bill that protects the locals from witchcraft.

They were voicing their concern following incidences of witchcraft in the area that saw the burning of an elderly woman to death.

They said cases of witchcraft in the area is rampant which is a reason to worry.

They had earlier on criticised the government for protecting witches whom they say have a lot of harm to the society.

“The county government should draft a bill that illegalises witchcraft and any material associated with it and also formulate an appropriate punishment,” said Francis Obare.

“The bill will also protect those alleged to be witches from the community which show no mercy to them," said Walter Mabonga a law student at Moi University.

"The bill should also be read to the residents and well defined to them. This will ensure justice for all,” he added.
