Governor Jack Ranguma has announced plans to drill water in hospitals near Lake Victoria to prevent attacks by crocodiles.
Mr Ranguma said many deaths have occurred as locals go to the lake to draw water.
The governor promised to take up the issue with the Kenya Wildlife Service to be able to deal with rouge wild animals in the lake.
He said he got concerned when a school girl who went to draw water in the lake in Seme constituency was mauled by a crocodile.
The governor said the water will be drilled in the hospitals and markets places along the lake shores.
“In memory of the school girl who died, I am going to drill water in their locality so that nobody goes to fetch water in the lake. I will replicate the same in other areas along the lake,” he said.
Speaking in Seme constituency on Monday where he toured several projects, Ranguma said locals will now not necessarily go to the lake to draw water.
He said this is one sure way of preventing deaths caused by crocodiles along the lake.
Ranguma at the same time urged fishermen to be extra cautious while in the fishing expedition to avoid attacks by crocodiles and hippopotamus.
He said that wildlife victims should be paid in time.
