Speaking at Tom Mboya Labour College on Friday, the lobby groups’ chairperson Joseph Okello urged the county to allocate more funds to build local polytechnics, for every local to acquire different skills to create job opportunities.

Okello appealed to the MCAs to come up with a motion to allocate more funds towards the constructions, in order to improve skills through trainings.

He reiterated on the importance of this village polytechnics, as a great number of locals would have acquired skills enhancement that can help them in self-employment.

He noted that skills like carpentry, welding and jua-kali are easy to acquire if such institutions were set up, and would help in curbing the unemployment issue.

Alive Today Chairperson Robert Otieno also echoed same sentiments, emphasizing on improved skills trainings through village polytechnics.

Otieno added that much of their lobby groups’ mandate was to mobilize, sensitize and empower locals on social issues in the society, and how to improve such scenarios.

“It is through the village polytechnics that the lobby groups would get various trainings in terms of skills, hence improved capacity building,” said otieno

He challenged the county government to allocate funds in constructing the institutions to train locals and empower them more in the process.
