Kisumu County residents have challenged county executive for tourism to allocate funds to promote tourism in the region.
The interior development officer Hermes Abungu challenged the executive director for not allocating funds to promote tourism in the county.
Speaking on Wednesday at Tom Mboya Labour College, Abungu said tourist attraction in the region needed to be improved by coming up with better positions in the sector.
He said, cultures within the region needed to be diversified in order to attract tourists and dwelling in one culture would be monotonous.
“Away from culture diversification, there should be high security within archaeological sites like Kit Mikayi, educating locals on ways to be hospitable to tourists, putting strict measures on wildlife poaching and subjecting poachers to penalties, marketing tourism within the region as this would attract tourists,” said Abungu.
Wildlife conservation officer Peterson Wetende also reiterated that a lot needed to be done in tourist docket within the region to attract funding.
“Much is to be done like improving forests standards and creating boundaries for wildlife to grow, by creating boundaries poaching would have been dealt with,” said Wetende.
Locals also needed to be educated on the importance of tourists and benefits and through this awareness creation, hostility would be reduced.
