Nakuru professionals now want the county government to factor in the purchase and installation of CCTV cameras in the next budget. This, they said on Friday, would help curb increased cases of hooliganism and theft in the county. Speaking after a fact-finding tour in Machakos, they said that the lack of appropriate measures was to blame for the increased cases of insecurity in the town. They cited the recent incident where county inspectorate officers were attacked by a local politician when they were on their way to demolish illegally constructed kiosks. “CCTV cameras would come in handy in controlling and monitoring the illegal gangs that operate in the matatu bus terminus and other public areas which will in turn reduce crime,” he said. Victor Ngatia pointed out that the cameras would enable the county government to control the town activities better. “No one will come and go out unnoticed. We will not have cases of Al-Shabaab or other vigilante groups in the town hence improved security,” he said. Elijah Kinyanjui said that the cameras would also come in handy in controlling traffic in the town. “One would be able to monitor the traffic jams and enable them to ease it as they would be monitoring it well,” he added.
