On Monday, the traders speaking at the market said unknown people have been have been vandalising shops in the area.

"We have lost goods worth over Sh500,000 to thieves who are taking advantage of darkness in the area to steal. 

"Street lights will help night guards to see the suspects and raise alarm immediately because the thieves normally come to the market where we have left our goods and steal them while guards are asleep," said Mary Onduko, a fruits vendor. 

Jennifer Ogenche accused police officers in the area for failing to patrol at night.

"Police officers operating in the area are too lazy. They sleep as early as 8 pm and fails to conduct security patrols to arrests criminals who operates at night," she said.
