Speaking during a burial in Mosocho early today health director Yvonne Morage said the majority of counties have not been up to the task in terms of quality health care provision, giving rise to communicable diseases such as cholera in many parts of the country.

She said that there was a need for the county governments to ensure that the health sector receives more budgets in the next financial years to ensure that all health facilities are upgraded.

“Health sector has been facing many challenges under the county government and this has been brought about the underfunding done by the government,” she added.

She warned that if counties fail to live up to the challenge of managing health care, the situation is set to get out of hand, now that public health is a devolved function.

“Counties that want to grow must be sensitive to the needs of their people in order to build a healthy and productive populace,” said the officer.

She called upon the county government of Kisii to ensure that they upgrade the current health facilities so that the residents can get proper medical attention.
