Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Monday, they said previous governments have ignored the cattle dips, leaving them in a poor state, hence making it difficult for livestock keepers to handle problems related to their health.

They asked the county assembly to set aside some funds that will be used not only to renovate the structures in 2015/16 financial year but also add more similar structures to every location in the region as a way of preventing possible livestock diseases.

“Many cattle dips in the region are in a very poor condition. Some of them were used about 15 years ago and I think something urgent should be done by the county government to control the situation,” said Evans Nyamwanga.

“As  livestock farmers, I would like to urge the county assembly to set aside some funds in the coming financial year for the purpose of not only refurbishing the existing ones, but also to build new ones in at least every location,” added Wilson Getonto from Riakworo.

They said they have to rely on hand pumps, which are relatively expensive to clean their livestock despite their little in come.

“We cannot really afford to buy specific pesticides to clean our livestock.  They are a bit expensive than using a cattle dip where we are charged little money. I hope they will hear our plea and work on it,” added Henry Nyamwaka.
