Some residents from Kisii county have protested against an impassable section of the road at Daraja Mbili which flooded during heavy rains.
The protestors who included motorcycle operators lamented that the section of the road at Daraja Mbili next to Kenya Power regional offices had become a nightmare.
As if to drive home their anger, the demonstrators barricaded the road paralysing motorists on the busy road.
According to the residents, the flooding was caused by a blocked culvert that aggravated the already deplorable state of DarajaMbili-Nyamataro by-pass under the National Highway Authority.
Joseph Simba accused the county government of ignoring the road despite the fact that the senior officers including the governor use it.
Frank Ochwang’i criticised the area elected leadership for behaving as if they had abdicated their responsibilities by neglecting the roads.
Ochwang’i alleged President Uhuru Kenyatta who visited the county recently was not briefed by the governor on the condition of the road under his docket.
The county government claimed Geoffrey Tinega, a civil society activist, had the audacity to refer the residents to the national government for assistance when the duty to fix damaged drainage system in town was its task.
He said the road was a disaster in the waiting claiming that the county government had no moral authority to lecture residents on disaster management preparedness.
