The Kisii University new ICT centre whose construction has stalled due to insufficient funding from the government will be completed soon, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maang’i has said.
Speaking on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in the university ahead of the graduation ceremony, Maang’i said the county government will release Sh30 million for the completion of the structure.
“Our government will ensure that this complex is completed in time. We have proposed the same to the county assembly and we expect them to approve Sh30 million,” the deputy county boss said.
“This university is part of us and it’s our obligation to ensure it is supported,” he said.
He promised that the county government will donate 200 computers to facilitate information learning besides helping the institution to strengthen its wireless networks.
“We will bring computers to help ICT learning and we’ll ensure your local area networks are strengthened to enable students communicate efficiently besides doing online researches that will make them competitive in the global market,” Maang’i said.
Vice Chancellor John Akama faulted the government for little support offered to the recently accredited universities, which he said were undergoing financial turmoil.
“This project would have been finished years ago. Upcoming universities are getting insignificant support from the government hence the delay,” he said.
When finished, the building will accommodate students doing ICT-related courses.
