[Photo|Anyang Nyong'o]Kisumu County was the host to the Premier Launch of a local production film, Angels of Nyalenda.The event, held at the Vic hotel, was graced by Governor Anyang Nyongo, Senator Fred Outa, and the County Director of Tourism Thomas Ouko.Also present during the launch were the County government of Kisumu Cabinet nominees Achie Alai (Tourism, Culture, Arts and Sports), Nerry Achar (Physical Planning, Lands, Housing and Urban Development) and Richard Ogendo (Economic Development and Planning).During the Saturday ceremony, Nyong'o said he was glad the event was happening in Kisumu and reiterated his passion for the industry.He promised to deliver on the manifesto by ensuring that Arts and Culture was given priority during his tenure.He further said that he was looking towards upgrading Kisumu to an arts and tourism entertainment hub.Achie Alai assured the industry that she would ensure the talented individuals were recognised, uplifted and promised to introduce legislation in the Assembly to ensure that the industry adhered to recognised ethics and artists rights were protected.She said that she would be meeting a group of industry key players at the County headquarters soon to initiate a conversation with them.Achie who is very passion about arts said that she was looking forward to hosting the first ever Kisumu International Carnival in the County next year.The Executive Director of Ignite Raphael Mahulo who was also the main sponsor of the film production said he had seen light at the end of tunnel as the County government of Kisumu was finally giving keen attention to the arts industry. He urged the County government to provide the industry with a spacious physical place for the artists to showcase their talents.The movie producer Joyce Arigi thanked the County government and the people of Kisumu for giving her the chance to direct the film. She indicated the entire cast and the production team was all local talent indicating a golden opportunity for the arts sector in the county.
