Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has called on the directorate of the Kenya Forest Service to allow the county to manage the Kakamega forest.
Oparanya said that the forest is now under threat of extinction following an increased illegal logging in the recent days.
He said his government cannot watch as natural resources were being destroyed, adding that he had the capacity and enough resources to take care of the equatorial rain Forest.
The forest is a major tourist attraction which is rich with hundreds of different species of fauna and flora.
He called on the National government to devolve the forest to Kakamega County government.
