The county government of Nyamira has issued a stern warning to various contractors from the construction sector of delayed completion of projects despite having been paid.

This comes after an assessment that indicated over 20 building construction contracts had stalled even after having been paid fully by the county government.

On Wednesday, chief engineer Wilson Okeyo said the contractors risked revocation of their contracts and subsequent prosecution if they failed to honour terms and conditions of the service.

He said the county government was disappointed given its commitment to pay in time and accused contractors of impunity.

“We are in a total disaster. Many buildings that we had initiated haven’t been finished despite elapsing of the agreed period. We will have no alternative than to revoke those contracts and instigate criminal proceedings against them,” he said.

“It is a massive disappointment for us since we had honored the deal. They should have adhered to terms and conditions. This is business and we ought to respect each other,” he added.

He gave the contractors an ultimatum of one month to finalise the projects which, according to him, had sabotaged service delivery in the county.

“Some workers are working without offices and this is a challenge in service delivery. We have given them a month to finish up or we take legal actions against them,” he said.
