Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has asked private waste collectors not to dump garbage on undesignated areas.
The county boss has termed the action illegal saying it should be discouraged right away. He warned those who won’t comply to prepare for the consequences.
Speaking during a three-day workshop comprising of stakeholders from solid waste management which was facilitated by a Swedish company, Mandago asked stakeholders in the county to pull resources to reclaim the glory of Eldoret town with was among the cleanest towns in the past.
Mandago said that his administration will implement the resolutions from the workshop urging residents to be mindful of the environment.
"Let's partner together to make this town clean by planting trees among others,” said the county governor during the workshop on Thursday.
The Governor expressed confidence with the Swedish company saying he is looking forward to actualizing the solid management waste plant which will be the first one in East and central Africa converting waste into power.
Norrkoping Water and Waste Company will soon start construction of Uasin Gishu waste management project at Kipkaren dumpsite and will be looking forward to expanding their firms to other places in the Rift Valley.
