Nakuru County water and sanitation department has called on residents to be wary of the El Nino threat saying a lot is set be affected with the on start of the rains.
During a consultative forum at the Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Services Company boardroom on Monday, the company eluded confidence that all the necessary precautionary measures had been taken to ensure residents don’t feel the direct impact of the anomaly.
According to the managing director Rueben Korir, the county government has done a commendable job as far as disaster preparedness and management is concerned.
“Our concern was mainly the low land areas, slums and those residing near lakes but so far, I think we are set for the inconveniences that might be brought about by the rains,” he said.
He further noted that the company had ensured sewerage systems, drainage channels, water ways and road culverts were unblocked to ensure free flow of water.
“This is the time dumping along water ways will inconvenience the process. Let us help one another in ensuring none of us within our areas is affected by the rains,” he advised.
The warning comes barely two weeks after the county invested Sh50 million to help instigate measures aimed at ensuring the El Nino threat is dealt with before time.
Korir called on the media to help the company identify El Nino prone areas on time for immediate action before the situation becomes unmanageable.
“Because of reaching huge masses on time, let you (the media) be our eyes where we cannot reach because we are supposed to serve an extensive area where we might not necessarily have a representative at even corner,” the MD noted.
