Kiambu County government workers have not yet received their July salaries according to some officials.
Some Personal Assistant (PA)s to Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have revealed that they have been forced to wait until the end of this month to receive the July salary.
Kalimoni Ward MCA’s PA Erick Mwangi, has said that he received his June salary last week after waiting for almost three months and he is now worried that he might be kept waiting for the July salary for the next three months again.
His Witeithie counterpart James Njoroge said that they have been pressuring the county government over the same but they are always promised to wait a little longer only for the delay to take up to three months without pay.
“We are always forced to wait as we have no option. Sometimes you are forced to take a soft loan from the MCA because you are not sure when you will be paid,” he added.
Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi revealed that they have been forced to put any funds approval in the county assembly as there are no funds in the county treasury.
“I also have workers in my office and they are subject to the county government. They blame me for the delayed payment yet I am not the one to take the blame,” he added.
Kiambu County secretary Fredrick Kitema has admitted that they have delayed salaries as they were forced to return some funds to the national government when the financial year ended.
“We have not paid most of them because the funds are not yet in the county government accounts. We expect them anytime so that we can clear the dues,” Kitema said on phone.
