Barely a month after ODM party elected aspirants in Nyamira County, a row is looming over leadership crisis following resignation of branch chairman James Gesami.
In a protest letter to Orange House, Gesami, who also doubles as West Mugirango MP, resigned from the ODM party after losing to incumbent Governor John Nyagarama in a highly contested race.
But a letter written by unknown individuals and received at the Orange House now gives the current officials a week to vacate officer over claims that they are supporting rival candidates.
“After recent ODM primaries in Nyamira, county chairman James Gesami lost in the nominations and has since resigned from the party,” read the letter.
“Worryingly, Gesami and several officials who helped him in campaigns are leading a rebellion which is affecting negatively the party’s impact on the ground,” the letter said.
“We are giving the party one week to respond to the matter failure to which we shall hold a meeting and elect new interim officials.”
But Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, who also doubles as national treasurer, dismissed the letter as a ‘rumour’.
“Such a letter doesn’t exist and it’s erroneous. The party is intact and that is just a rumour being circulated,” he said.
