A Mombasa couple has been sentenced to seven years in prison after they were found guilty of being in possession of explosives.
The two, Hassan Jilo Bwanamaka and Mwanasita Shee, were convicted of being in possession of three grenades without legal authority.
The prosecution told the court that in 2014, the two accused persons were nabbed with three grenades in their house located in Likoni, Mombasa County.
The two also faced a second charge of allegedly being members of the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).
The couple also faced another charge of allegedly being in possession of 305 papers used to make Sh1,000 counterfeit notes.
They were further accused of being in possession of incitement letters that sought to provoke violence in the country.
In her ruling on Wednesday, Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Ruguru found the accused guilty of being in possession of explosives, adding that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The magistrate, however, acquitted them of the three other charges they were facing due to lack of evidence.
