The pre-trial conference for 46 NYS suspects involved in the Sh9 billion scam has been adjourned. Milimani anti-corruption court Magistrate Douglas Ogoti adjourned the pre-trial conference to June 20 to allow the prosecution to supply witness statements to the defense counsels. The court ordered the prosecution to ensure all material it intends to use in the trial of the suspects is supplied to them by next week. Earlier, the defense lawyers had accused the prosecution team and the court of infringing on the rights of the suspects. The lawyers claimed that their clients had already been condemned and branded guilty of the offenses. “This court has to ensure the rights of the accused persons are respected and also guarantee fair trial,” Danstan Omari, a lawyer representing some of the accused persons told court. The court assured suspects of a affair trial further denying claims that the fate of the accused persons’ had been sealed. On Tuesday, the NYS suspects including suspended Public Service Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo were denied bail or bond. The court ruled that the charges facing the suspects are serious and they will remain in custody pending conclusion of their trial.
