Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has been barred from issuing any statements about Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's ally Aharubi Khatri.
Marwa has been directed by the High Court not to make any utterances about Khatri's arrest until a defamation case filed by the businessman is heard and determined.
In her ruling on Wednesday, Judge Thande Mugure said the order applied to addresses at press conferences and to print media, The Star reports.
This comes after Khatri sued Marwa for defamation, following his arrest in Mombasa on January 13.
Last week, Khatri through his lawyer Mohamed Balala, asked Marwa to apologise in the media and desist from making defamatory remarks as well as interfering with the operations of police in relation to the matter.
“Note that this demand is personal to you and not in your capacity as a regional commissioner as such acts of defamation are clearly not within your legal mandate,” read Khatri's affidavit.
Marwa had linked Khatri to drug trafficking and illegal possesion of firearms, allegations that the governor's ally has denied.
