The Lands and Environment Court in Kisumu has closed the file of a case challenging the relocation of Kachok dumpsite from Kachok to Kajulu. This is after the petitioners who filed the case challenging relocation of the dumpsite decided to withdraw the case. The case was filed by Fredrick Nyesi and Rose Nyanjong. In a ruling made on Thursday, Kisumu lands and environment court Judge Stephen Kibunja said the case is now a closed matter.“This court makes a note that the petition filed dated December 15, 2017 has been withdrawn in accordance with the notice dated January 9, 2018. And in view of that, the earlier interim order is hereby vacated and the file will be closed. Those are the directions of the court,” said the judge. The court had earlier given an interim order barring the Kisumu County government from relocating the Kachok dumpsite to Kajulu area in Kisumu East Constituency.During campaigns prior to the August 8 general elections, Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o had promised to relocate the Kachok dumpsite within the first 100 days after being elected governor. His plan, however, hit a snag after Mr Nyesi moved to court to stop the intended relocation on grounds that the residents of Kajulu would develop health problems if the dumpsite was relocated. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kisumu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
