The Mombasa Law Court has released a suspect who was facing charges of allegedly killing a senior intelligence officer.
Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo dropped the charges against Mr Ikrima Shosi after the police failed to produce evidence before the court.
Shosi was accused of targeting security forces after detectives allegedly linked him to the killing of a senior intelligence officer in July last year.
He is also suspected to be a member of al-Shabaab terrorist group.
The accused was arrested on January 7, 2016, at Casablanca day and night club by Anti-Terror Police Unit officers.
Shosi was also accused of aiding and harbouring members of the al-Shabaab group and planning terrorism attacks in Mombasa County.
The investigating officer told the court that Shosi has allegedly been harbouring al-Shabaab terrorists in his house in Guraya area, where they have been planning attacks in the county.
Shosi had however in the previous case hearing denied all the charges saying he was innocent and was not involved in any terror activities.
Magistrate Odenyo ruled that the police had failed to link the accused person to the terror charges.
“The charges pressed are different from what the police introduced in the affidavit,” said Magistrate Odenyo.
