A Mombasa court has ordered for the release of a Ugandan national who had been detained over allegations of being in Kenya illegally.Kelvin Wanyakala was arraigned in court to answer to charges being in the country without legal documents.The court heard that Mr Wanyakala who had visited his sister was arrested on December 18, 2017, and detained in police custody.The court further heard that Mr Wanyakala was arrested at Likoni Masjid Nguo at around 10pm for being in the country illegally.Senior Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni, however, ordered the release of Mr Wanyakala and warned the police against arresting citizens of the East African community.Mr Wanyakala said he was in the country to visit his sister who is married to a Kenyan and wanted to spend more time in the country during the December holiday.He said he was arrested by the police when he went out to buy kales, and at that time he had left his passport in the house as he did not see the need of walking with it since he was not going far from home.In his inauguration speech, President Uhuru Kenyatta said all visitors from the East African Community have the liberty to visit, work and do business in Kenya without any restrictions.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
