Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has been given two months to produce Mombasa Republican Council leader Omar Mwamnuadzi.
According to the Star, Sonko pleaded for more time to find out Mwamnuadzi's whereabouts when he appeared before Mombasa chief magistrate Daniel Ogoti on Friday.
“I pledge to make sure the accused appears before this court on the date that will decide,” he said as quoted by the Star.
He said he understands the repercussions of Mwamnuadzi’s skipping court sessions and that he could lose his property.
The Star added that Sonko said he last heard from Mwamnuadzi w Mombasa chief magistrate Daniel Ogoti hen he was admitted to the Coast Provincial General Hospital after falling ill, and that he would talk to his wife and children who were present in court to know his whereabouts.
Mwamnuadzi and nine others are accused of being members of an outlawed group and has skipped court sessions in both Mombasa and Kwale.
The Nairobi Senator had surrendered three title deeds to the court as surety for all the accused.
He is also accused, alongside his wife Maimuna Hamisi, of having weapons including firearms.
They are also facing two counts of incitement to violence and having material used in witchcraft.
Sonko accused the prosecution of delaying the case, thus causing some of the accused to miss proceedings.
However, the prosecution said the hospital documents presented in court were fake and that Mwamnuadzi had intentionally skipped court.
An arrest warrant was also issued for the arrest of Juma Mwakusema who also skipped court.
The case will now be mentioned on November 23.
