The drama surrounding the choice of the ODM candidate for Taita Taveta governor seat may be far from over after the High Court made a ruling on the matter that has been the source of the party's headache in the recent weeks.
While giving the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Jessie Lessit directed the Raila Odinga-led party to nominate a candidate for the county’s governor's seat. While giving the order, Justice Lessit asked the Orange party to use its internal mechanisms that comply with the law in picking the candidate.Justice Lessit gave the order after Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu lodged an appeal challenging an earlier decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal that had directed ODM to revoke his nomination certificate with the tribunal asking ODM's National Elections Board to repeat the nomination exercise in five polling stations within Taveta sub-county.But the ruling may not change much in as far as the supremacy contest between Mwadeghu and Governor John Mruttu is concerned. On Sunday, the Governor announced that he has resigned from ODM and will be defending his seat as an independent candidate.
