Muhoroni Member of Parliament James Onyango K’Oyoo has suffered a blow after the High Court stripped his nomination for the seat.

The court instead declared his main political rival, Ayiecho Olweny, as the genuinely elected nominee for the Muhoroni Parliamentary seat during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations that were conducted in April this year.

“This court tabulated the result and established that Prof Olweny had won the primaries by garnering 23,578 votes while the incumbent MP, Mr K’Oyoo managed 13,700 votes,” Lady Justice Jessie Lessit ruled, Wednesday.

She cancelled K’Oyoo’s nomination certificate forwarded to IEBC and directed the Orange party to issue the ODM certificate to Olweny.

“I direct ODM to issue Prof Olweny with a nomination certificate then forward his name to IEBC as its valid candidate for Muhoroni parliamentary seat,” said Justice Lessit.

The court also convicted the ODM’s election board, Judith Pareno, for contempt after she failed to tabulate the results of five wards which forms Muhoroni constituency during the ODM.
