The government has further been barred from withdrawing Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s security and guns.
A Nairobi high court on Friday extended the orders, stopping Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery intentions to take away much of the governor’s security detail.
Justice George Odunga said Nkaissery’s order of revoking Joho gun licence was illegal.
The order remains suspended until the court determines Governor Joho pending application in the court, Odunga said.
The national government’s side has challenged the governor’s petition, saying it was unsuitable for court.
A legal team has been formed to represent CS Nkaissery, Inspector General Joseph Boinnet, the Firearms Licensing Board and the chief licensing officer.
The chief licensing officer, Samuel Kimaru, argues that it was within his powers to cancel the licence.
The high court sitting in Mombasa last month stopped the arrest of Joho over refusal to surrender firearms following a successful application by the governor’s lawyers.
