A Nakuru court on Monday ordered age assessment for two minors charged with breaking into a house and stealing Sh10,000 property.

The suspects aged 16 are accused of breaking into Beatrice Wasera’s house, a neighbour, and stealing a signboard, table and assorted clothes on October 27, 2015 at Heshima area, Bahati constituency, Nakuru County.

According to the prosecution files, the complainant who was at work on that day came back home only to realise that her property was missing.

Wasera asked the neighbours who claimed that the two boys were seen carrying the properties.

She reported the matter to police who launched investigations. They were arrested and taken to Bahati police station where they were charged.

Appearing before chief magistrate Doreen Mulekyo, the minors pleaded guilty to the charges but the prosecution through Hillary Songoyo urged the court to order a probation report a long side age assessment.

“Since they are minors, I urged the court to order an age assessment at Nakuru Provincial Hospital and be remanded at Nakuru central police station and the case be mentioned on Friday,” he said.

The court ordered that the age assessment be done on the minors as well probation report be issued before the court gives its verdict.

In the same court, two brothers alleged of stealing tractor ream and harvester valued at Sh 20,000 pleaded guilty to the charge.

Aged 15 and 13, the two are accused of stealing at Jumali farm in Njoro on October 30, 2015.

The court also ordered for a social inquiry report and age assessment report.

The cases will be mentioned on Friday.
