Two employees who worked for the former Nairobi City Council have been jailed for two years each after being found guilty of fraud.

The two, a City Council Procurement officer and a Surveyor were found guilty of fraud in a multi-million shilling cemetery land scandal and sentenced to two years imprisonment each on Friday. 

They were also ordered to pay a fine of Sh77.2 million.

Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Felix Kombo in his ruling said in case the two, Boniface Misera (former procurement officer) and Cephas Kamende (surveyor) fail to pay the fine, they will have to serve an extra one-year imprisonment for the crime.

The Judge said Misera will pay a Sh40 million fine while his co-accused, Mr Kamende will have to part away with Sh37.2 million.

The two officers were sentenced after being found guilty of graft following irregular buying of cemetery land in Mavoko.

Misera and Kamende were accused of acquiring Sh283 million from the Local Government Ministry purporting to be the purchase price to be paid by the City Council of Nairobi for the land in Mavoko in December 2008 and April 2009 when the actual value for the same piece of land, then stool at Sh24 million.
