The High Court in Nairobi has barred the government from withdrawing the security detail attached to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
High Court Judge Roselyne Aburili on Friday, also barred the government from revoking the NASA leader's firearm.Judge Aburili ordered the government to reinstate Kalonzo's security with immediate effect after it was withdrawn on January 30 during NASA leader Raila Odinga's inauguration as the people's president at Uhuru Park.Kalonzo had moved to court seeking to compel the government to reinstate his security and firearm.Kalonzo in the suit papers filed in court said that his security was withdrawn without explanation exposing him to security threats. He argued that the government’s decision to withdraw his security detail was in bad faith. The court ordered the government to file responses in court conforming to the orders by February 27.The Wiper leader is among NASA politicians whose security was withdrawn in relation to Raila Odinga's controversial swearing-in, which the government had termed as highly treasonous.Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Amani National Congress Party (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi's security were also withdrawn by the government.A section of opposition MPs among them Dagorreti North Simba Arati also had their firearms revoked by the government. The withdrawal of Kalonzo’s security was one of the major reasons he said forced him to skip Raila's inauguration.
