A case seeking the nullification of Mandera Senatorial results has taken a different twist after a court ordered preservation of all the ballot papers used during the exercise.
According to Daily Nation, two judges have directed for the preservation of the election materials used in Mandera Senatorial and Embu gubernatorial race.
The papers will be secured until the completion of the case challenging the victories of Governor Martin Wambora and Mahamud Maalim Mohammed are completed.
Lawyers Tom Ojienda, Antony Lubullelah and Kioko Kilukumi were directed to ensure that all the requirements are met by Mr Justice William Tuiyot as the complainant seeks justice.
Through his lawyer, Prof Ojienda, Mr Hassan Aden Osman, argued that the election was marred by illegalities and irregularities that saw him defeated by Mohammed. He also said that there is need to store the election material until the case is decided.
“These materials need to be stored in safe place as we all know the security issues in Mandera. The materials need to be preserved for a period of three years before being disposed,” he said, as quoted by the Local Daily.
