A court in Nairobi on Friday rejected a pregnant woman's plea to release her husband who is accused of beating her at their home in Kibera slums on Thursday.

Kibera Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani declined to release Evans Amakolwa after allegedly beating up Lucy Adolwa breaking one of her arms.

According to the prosecution, Amakolwa is said to have confronted Adolwa on Thursday evening when he arrived home from work only to find that the wife had not done domestic work he had assigned her.

The woman is said to have been told to look for an electrician to repair a faulty electric line in the couples' house.

Amukolwa is said to have picked a metal bar which he used to hit Adolwa three times on the arms injuring her.

The accused was released on a Sh300,000 bond and the case will be heard on March 3.
