A court in Nakuru released two women unconditionally after they were arrested for hawking food without a license and against a government directive. Chief Resident Magistrate Samuel Mungai released Gladys Waithera 29, and Yolanda Auko, 35 unconditionally after the two were separately charged and pleaded guilty for illegally hawking boiled eggs within the Nakuru Central Business District against a directive by the county public health office. The accused who separately pleaded guilty to the offenses in mitigation had begged for leniency from the court arguing out that they were not aware of the directive while they have been carrying out the business for the last couple of years without being arrested for lack of a licence. They told the court that they were single mothers and sole breadwinners for their families. They however promised to look for an alternative source of earning income. The Magistrate in his ruling had however simply told the accused that they were free to go back home to continue struggling to raise their families as the court had put into consideration their mitigation.
