A senior police officer accused of killing a Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University student was on Wednesday released on bond.
Sebastian Ambani, who is the OCS at Kehancha Police Station was released on a sh500,000 bond and two sureties of the same.
Ambani allegedly shot dead Brian Chacha two weeks ago at a drinking joint in Kisumu's Mamboleo area.
According to the family's pathologist Isiabiaba Ndibire, an autopsy result showed that the deceased succumbed to a bullet wound on his heart and another in the brain.
Ambani had pleaded not guilty to the murder count before High Court Judge Fred Ochieng' on Monday this week.
Justice Ochieng' had then directed that a mental examination be conducted on the suspect before he could be released.
When he was released on Wednesday, Justice Ochieng' directed that the hearing of the case will commence in September this year.
The judge, however, warned Ambani to refrain from making any kind of contact with witnesses in case after the prosecution alleged that he was threatening them.
Danstan Chacha, the father of the deceased pressed upon the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet and Interior CS Fred Matiang'i to rein into the matter and ensure justice is availed to them.
