Just weeks after reports of human trafficking in Garissa County came to the public limelight, a Mandera-based court has once again reprimanded an assistant chief for reportedly abetting human trafficking from Somalia country.
Chief Abdikadir Madey Abdi, who appeared before the senior magistrate Areri Peter was accused of allegedly facilitating entry of Somalia aliens into the country for purposes of promoting human trafficking, an act that is considered criminal under the Kenyan laws.
The court heard that on 24th August this year, Chief Abdikadir of Bula Mpya sub-location reportedly facilitated the movement of Fouzia Jeylaw Abuu Alias Ladhan Ali Adan and Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed Alias Dekow Mohamed Diisow from Somalia to Kenya.
The accused chief also faced an alternative charge of illegally ferrying two juveniles to Nairobi.
The Somalia aliens were arrested at a police road block while travelling to Nairobi.
Prosecution counsel Amwanyi Kennedy asked the court to give very stringent bond terms and the accused persons to report to criminal investigation department in Mandera on a weekly basis.
