Eldoret High Court on Thursday temporarily suspended eviction of the Sengwer community from Embobut forest.

The forest forms part of the country’s water towers.

Justice Millicent Odeny ordered that the eviction plan is stopped until a case before the court is heard and determined.

Elias Kibiwot and 19 other members of the community filed the petition opposing their ejection from the forest on grounds of conservation.

Kenya forest service, Elgeyo Marakwet county commissioner and the lands commission are the respondents in the case.

Odeny set the hearing of the case to be on February 27.
