The Labour and Employment Relations Court Thursday temporarily barred Kenya Power from extending the term of its chief executive Ben Chumo.
According to the Star, the court also wants Energy minister Charles Keter not act on a letter for the Kenya Power board to renew Chumo’s contract.
Justice Nelson Abuodha issued the order following an application by activist Okiya Omtatah who says the extension of the chief executive's term would be irregular as the retirement age for civil servants is 60 years.
Chumo, who was born on July 11, 1956, should have left office on that date this year, he says.
Abuodha directed the activist to serve the minister, Attorney General and the Kenya Power advisory committee with the suit papers.
The case in which Chumo and the Public Service Commission are listed as interested parties, will be heard on December 3.
