The Mombasa High Court on Monday issued summons to five employees of St Augustine preparatory School over the death of a nursery pupil.

The five, headmistress Serah Kessi, the school bursar Venant Mwasaru, driver Valdi Mbadi, mechanic Abednego Mwendwa and bus conductor Charo Kazungu are to appear in court to answer to murder charges.Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony issued the orders following an application by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Alexander Muteti.Muteti informed the court that the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed him to appoint two State counsels to work with the police to ensure that the five are brought before the court.The court heard that the offence was committed on July 21, 2017 in Sega, Majengo, in Mombasa County.The court heard that the pupil, six-year-old Jeremy Masila was on Friday morning run over by the back wheels of the bus when he fell down through an opening on the floor of the bus.Justice Chepkwony directed the summons be served through the regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations coordinator in Mombasa.The case will be mentioned on July 26, when the accused are expected to take a plea.
