A Mombasa court has summoned the investigating officer who arrested suspected members of the Watalia gang on New Year's eve.
This comes after only five out of the 13 arrested suspects were arraigned in court on Tuesday.
Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti ordered the officer, Aden Adouw, to present himself on Wednesday to explain the whereabouts of the other eight suspects and why they failed to appear in court to answer to charges of planning to commit a crime.
According to kbctv.co.ke, the suspects who were armed with crude weapons including hammers, knives and pangas, were nabbed at the Likoni ferry screening area.
They are reported to have been preparing to board a ferry heading to the island with intent to commit a crime.
The suspects were remanded at the Likoni Police Station after pleading not guilty.
