The high court in Nairobi has ordered the suspension of a repeat police recruitment exercise that was scheduled for Monday next week.
High court judge Isaac Lenaola on Thursday ordered the suspension until a petition filed by recruits who passed the previous exercise and their results nullified is heard. Lenaola said the new recruitment cannot take place until the petition is heard and determined.
The petition will be heard on September 11.
The National Police Service Commission had rescheduled a repeat of the exercise after the results of 36 centres in the previous exercise were cancelled.
This was after a taskforce formed by the commission found irregularities in 36 centres and recommended a repeat.
Nakuru’s Bahati and Njoro were among the centres whose results were nullified over bribery and irregularity claims.
However, those affected moved to court seeking revocation on grounds that the exercise was transparently done and that they were not heard before the cancellation was done.
