Nahashon Omulama, Fredrick Odhiambo and Stephene Aura were arraigned before court on three counts of charges in which they were accused of robbing Uzima University students off their laptops and mobile phones.

When they appeared in court on Wednesday, Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu found them guilty of the offence in which they robbed Lorraine Onyango, Lillian Nasimiyu and Sam Oronje on May 15 2014 at the gates of Uzima University in Kisumu County.

The particulars of the offence was that on the said date, the three accused persons jointly with others who were not before court robbed the students off laptops and mobile phones worth Sh124,000 while armed with a pistol.

While issuing a ruling on the cases, Mr Obutu considered the testimonies made by the students who appeared in court as witnesses during the court proceedings.

In the judgement, he stated that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the offence committed by the accused was well planned and had found the evidence brought before court sufficient enough to prove that the three were guilty of robbery with violence.

He cited the testimonies of Ms Nasimiyu, Mr Oronje and Ms Onyango who testified that on the incident date, she was in the company of other students as they were headed to the hostels after the day’s classes when they saw a motorbike carrying three people who exchanged greetings with them but after a short while, they were ordered to lie down by Omulama.

Oronje, a medical student at the university on the other hand stated before the Court that he was able to identify Odhiambo and Aura as the accused persons during a parade at the Maseno Police Station for identification by the witnesses.

The three accused are set to appear in court tomorrow for the sentencing.
